The Jets played host to Aberdeen January 10th in the first fixture of the new year with Michael Hose opening the scoring just 33 seconds into the game with assists from Andy Watt & Kevin Simpson. The trio capitalised again 31 seconds later, this time with Watt at the helm. The trend would continue until the Jets had a commanding eleven goal lead after only ten minutes of play. As the buzzer blew to end the opening period three Ayr players had hat-tricks, with another goal each from Mark Andrews & Jim Cathcart and a whopping seven skaters with at least one assist.
Both teams entered the game short on players with Ayr's twelve skaters pitted against just ten on the North Stars bench. Nevertheless, the more experienced Jets squad started the 2nd period as they had the first with John Kidd opening the scoring drive only three minutes into play assisted by M. Andrews & S. Fawcett. The home side managed a total of six tallies going into the final period increasing their lead to seventeen as Kidd was the culprit of an elbowing minor.
Aberdeen's heads were down and Ayr's hearts weren't in it as the puck dropped for the third period. Another penalty for the home team saw Gary Collins being called for boarding. However, this didn't stop the Jets attack on the three man penalty kill as Watt struck once again. Kidd stepped out the sin bin to be set up by Morris & Watt adding yet another one on the scoreboard. Managing to rack up a further seven goals as the game drew to a close, Ayr had a commanding twenty-four goal advantage. The Granite City side managed to squeeze a single goal past McCrone at 57.24 leading to another Collins foul at the final buzzer for roughing. Final score - Ayr Jets 24, Aberdeen North Stars 1.
