The Jets went into their second game of the season at Ayr Ice Rink against a previously unbeaten opponent in the Paisley Blackhawks. Both teams were missing a few players due to work commitments and various ailments but that didn't stop the end-to-end action on Saturday evening.
Ayr opened their scoring account with a goal from Ryan Rodger assisted by John Kidd five minutes from the first face-off. Kidd opened up the gap at 11.52 with an unassisted coast-to-coast goal giving the Jets a two goal advantage as the buzzer sounded to end the period.
The home side expanded their lead further 9 minutes into the second period with Gary Morris & Michael Hose setting up Kidd on a breakaway effort for the only goal of the period.
As the puck was dropped to begin the final stretch, the visiting team came out firing and managed to put one on the scoreboard at 44.58. Ayr showed determination to not lose their lead when Kevin Simpson & Hose assisted Kidd for his hat-trick in the twelfth minute of the third period but Paisley wouldn't give up, grabbing another tally with two minutes to go. The deficit proved to be too much for the usually strong Blackhawks and the Jets finished them off with a final goal from Simpson, assists coming from Rodger and rookie, Sean McPhail. Final score: Ayr Jets 5 - Paisley Blackhawks 2.
MOM: Sean McPhail
